Microsoft introduced the change at its Ignite convention on Wednesday. Over the following few months, Office.com, the Office cell app, and the Office app for Home windows will undertake the Microsoft 365 branding and get new appears to be like and icons. Microsoft 365 is similar to Microsoft Office, though there are key variations. The largest of those is value—Microsoft 365 is a month-to-month subscription service and Microsoft Office is a one-time buy—and entry to upgrades. Folks that subscribe to Microsoft 365 have the newest updates included of their plan, whereas these with Microsoft Office have to purchase the newest model of the software program.

Microsoft Office was first launched in 1990—going via many renovations over time—and has managed to stay dominant the sphere of office software program. Now that it’s retiring, part of me desires to play a melancholy violin solo, although I feel the brand new purple Microsoft 365 app brand is de facto fairly.

For those who don’t wish to say goodbye, Microsoft mentioned it’ll nonetheless supply one-time purchases of apps like Phrase, Outlook, and Excel for Office 2021 customers and Office LTSC plans. I suppose that’s what retirement means at Microsoft.
